A new TV series, rumoured to be filming in Alberta early next year, may have a connection to the hit HBO anthology series True Detective.
According to the Director’s Guild of Canada Alberta production list, a new TV series/new media titled The Magnificent Seven is rumoured to have a prep start of March 2026.
Not much else is known about the project; however, back in 2023, True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto was mentioned to be writing and executive producing The Magnificent Seven TV series in development at Amazon Studios, according to Deadline.
The content of the series is no stranger to Pizzolatto, who co-wrote the 2016 film remake of The Magnificent Seven, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and has a dazzling star-studded cast led by Denzel Washington.
The original Western-heavy Magnificent Seven was released in 1960, and a TV series also ran from 1998 to 2000.
Amazon Studios is adept at bringing Western-themed productions to Alberta, with the third and final season of Billy the Kid finishing filming in the province earlier this summer. Could Amazon Studios be rolling onto its next project in Alberta with The Magnificent Seven?
No release date has been announced for the project, so stay tuned as production on the film progresses.
Other big projects currently in production or gearing up for it soon in our province include a series based on the best-selling book series Anna Pigeon, a new Netflix movie with a Gilmore Girls star, a film starring a White Lotus actor, and a fresh season of Netflix’s hit show My Life With The Walter Boys. It sure has been busy!
While we await more information on this project, check out this trailer for the Alberta-shot film Die, My Love, featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson.
