A new K-pop music video is putting Metro Vancouver on the map, and it’s already racking up millions of views.
“Why Do I,” the latest single from KiiiKiii, a five-member girl group formed by Starship Entertainment, was filmed entirely across the Lower Mainland in July 2025.
Known for their playful aesthetic, sharp choreography, and feel-good pop energy, KiiiKiii debuted earlier this year with Uncut Gem and is already gaining momentum internationally, from a KCON Japan stage to brand deals with KakaoBank and Burger King.
Within 24 hours of its release, “Why Do I” had already surpassed three million views.
And behind the scenes, Vancouver’s own Escuro Studios played a starring role in bringing the video’s vibrant, nostalgic concept to life.
“We were the Canadian production company for the music video,” said Keyon Slowly, executive producer and owner of Escuro Studios.
“We handled all the pre-production, production, logistics, budgeting, location management, and crew hiring.”
From the bright blue track at Point Grey Secondary School to cozy house scenes in Langley, winding roads in Pitt Meadows and Port Coquitlam, and even a retro bowling alley in Richmond, the shoot took KiiiKiii all over Metro Vancouver.
“We shot at a bowling alley in Richmond that gave us that classic, late-night hangout feel,” said Slowly. “It was all about creating a fun, youthful world the group could move through.”
Each location brought its own vibe: colourful, nostalgic, and full of character.
“The idea was to create a colourful, playful video that felt like a ‘90s throwback,” Slowly told Daily Hive.
“We even shot half the video on 16mm film to get that textured, classic look.”
Roughly 25 crew members flew in from Korea to work alongside Escuro’s local team.
The experience offered a creative exchange between two production cultures.
“Filmmaking is universal, but there are definitely differences in process and style across regions,” said Slowly.
“It was fun seeing what matters most to Korean creatives…and blending that with what we do here.”
Escuro Studios brought together a strong Vancouver-based crew to support the project, including cinematographer Alexander Robichaud, production manager Darcy McDonald, producer’s assistant Lily Alley, and production designer Charlie Hannah.
On the Korean side, the video was directed by Jinoo.
Despite fast-paced filming and a few location pivots, the shoot went smoothly.

Slowly credits Vancouver’s passionate and technically skilled film community for making that possible.
“Vancouver has such an abundant source of creatives and technicians,” he said.
“Big movies and shows shoot here for a reason….our people know how to execute at a high level.”
This isn’t Escuro’s first brush with international acclaim.
The studio previously worked on a music video for Diplo and has collaborated with artists like Elijah Woods.
But “Why Do I” marks Escuro’s first K-pop production, and Slowly hopes it won’t be the last.
“Working with KiiiKiii was amazing,” he said.
“Their team was fun, respectful, and a joy to work with. I’d love to do more projects like this.”
As for how Vancouver can better support creative projects like this, Slowly points to two things: easier permitting, and more funding support for indie or international rollouts.
“The more we showcase what’s possible here, the more we’ll attract global attention,” he told Daily Hive.
