The made-in-Vancouver rom-com Eternity hit theatres this weekend, and star Elizabeth Olsen had some tips for on-screen love interests about how to stay safe around bears from their time filming in the city.
Olsen, Callum Turner, and Miles Teller were recently interviewed by Entertainment Weekly when the subject of the fierce B.C. animals came about.
“I learned that if you walk in the woods in Vancouver, then you could get killed by bears,” shared Turner.

“You’re supposed to walk backwards and wave your hands and sing a song,” Olson replied.
Turner added that there are no bears in London, which may play a part in his hesitancy to encounter the animals.
“They said, ‘Go for a walk, it’s real nice.’ And then the next day I came in, and they said, ‘Did you go for a walk?’ I said ‘N0.’ They said, ‘Did you see the bears? There were three brown bears.”
Olson responded, “But someone told you what you’re supposed to do when you see a bear in Vancouver, right? That’s why people wear whistles when they hike.
“And then you wave your hands and make yourself big.”
Teller piped up to say, “Generally, brown bears you don’t have to worry about too much.
“Until they eat you,” replied Olson.
Metro Vancouver has several tips online on how to avoid run-ins with a bear and what to do if you encounter one.
Eternity, which stars Teller, Olsen, and Turner, is directed by David Freyne and was shot in and around Vancouver for four months in 2024.
Viewers of the trailer will recognize the Sea-to-Sky Gondola as the backdrop for a stroll between Turner’s character Luke and Olson’s Joan.
Joan also got to spend time with Larry, played by Teller, in a beautiful scene set at Dundarave Beach.
Local fans spotted the two Marvel stars filming last June. Olson is beloved by Marvel fans for her work as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, while Teller also had his turn in a comic-book adaptation as Reed Richards in Fantastic Four (2015).
A downtown Vancouver landmark makes an appearance, as Olson rides up the huge Granville Station escalator into the afterlife.
Eternity tells the story of Joan, Larry, and Luke, who discover that after death, everyone gets one week to choose where to spend eternity. However, the three must figure out who to spend it with.
Vancouver will be spending a lot of time on screens soon, as the Disney+ reboot of Malcolm in the Middle and the feature movie The Social Reckoning were spotted filming around town this year.
A historic New West home was also recently used heavily for a spooky shoot for season 3 of Mayfair Witches.
