Hollywood North was heating up in Surrey recently as filming for the upcoming Carrie series came to town.
Parts of Cloverdale were transformed for the multi-day shoot of the Amazon Prime Video series, with several storefronts altered and streets closed.
The highlight of the filming was a fiery scene where a number of cars appear to be set ablaze.
According to Paul Orazietti, executive director of the Cloverdale BIA, filming is a vital part of the community’s economy.

“Filming is very important to the province, Metro Vancouver, and to Cloverdale,” Orazietti told Daily Hive. “Filming locations are becoming a new type of tourism as fans come from around the world to visit the locations of their favourite shows. Plus, we have a number of behind-the-scenes shots along with autographs.”
Carrie began filming in Cloverdale on Thursday, July 17 and wrapped Saturday, July 19, with the majority of the filming taking place at night.
Photos provided by Orazietti and the Cloverdale BIA show local storefronts made up to look like Chamberlain Public Library and Skent’s Hardware. There is also the aftermath of a chaotic scene with debris strewn about.
Carrie, a 1974 novel written by acclaimed horror writer Stephen King, has Mike Flanagan at the helm. He has experience in bringing King’s stories to the screen, as he was the director and writer of the sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep.
CreativeBC lists Reunion MHC Productions as the local production company, with filming scheduled to last until mid-October.
Orazietti, who lists Carrie as one of his all-time favourite movies, shared that filming brings more revenue to Cloverdale’s Town Centre in one shoot than the Rodeo and Fairgrounds do all year round.
“I have been here for 27 years, and filming has grown extensively from the very first Coke Xmas truck commercial shot in the ’90s,” he added. “Just a few of the films and series that have been filmed in Cloverdale include Superman and Lois, Sonic 2, Smallville, Goosebumps, and others.”
“Director James Gunn’s first directorial debut, Slither, was partly shot outside of our office in 2005.”
Film fans have had a few opportunities to see Hollywood North up close as a Netflix series recently transformed the Vancouver Art Gallery this month, and Wicked star Cynthia Erivo was also spotted at SFU for a Lionsgate action thriller.
